Frequently Asked Questions

What is Autism?

Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. It is a spectrum disorder, meaning that the symptoms and severity can vary widely from person to person. Some individuals with autism may have difficulty with verbal and nonverbal communication, while others may be able to speak fluently but have difficulty with social interactions. Some individuals may have repetitive behaviors or restricted interests, while others may have difficulty with changes in routine or familiar surroundings. The exact cause of autism is not known, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

What are the symptoms of Autism?

Symptoms of autism can vary widely, but some common signs include difficulty with social interactions and communication, repetitive behaviors, and difficulty with changes in routine or familiar surroundings. Other symptoms can include difficulty with nonverbal communication, such as eye contact or facial expressions, difficulty with verbal communication, such as delayed language development or difficulty with understanding or using language, and difficulty with cognitive or imaginative play.

When do the signs fo austism usually appear in children?

The signs may appear as early as 18 months old, but they usually become noticeable by the age of 2 or 3.

What are the early signs of autism?

The early signs of autism can include delayed language development, difficulty with social interactions, repetitive behaviors, limited interests, difficulty with changes in routine or unfamiliar surroundings, difficulty with nonverbal communication, and lack of imaginative play. However, not all children with autism will have the same signs, and some signs may not be noticed before the age of 2. Consult with a pediatrician or developmental pediatrician if you have any concerns about your child’s development.

What causes Autism?

The exact cause of autism is unknown, but it is likely a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Research suggests that mutations in certain genes may increase the risk of developing autism, while exposure to certain environmental factors during pregnancy or early childhood may also play a role.

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a type of therapy that focuses on understanding and changing behavior. It is based on the principles of behaviorism, which is the study of how behavior is learned and can be changed. ABA is used to help individuals develop new skills or change unwanted behaviors. It is commonly used to help individuals with autism and other developmental disorders, but it can also be used to help individuals with other behavioral and mental health concerns. ABA therapists use a variety of techniques such as positive reinforcement, modeling, and skill-building exercises to help individuals make progress towards their goals.

  • Fewer tantrums or angry outbursts

When is the best time to start ABA?

The earlier, the better. ABA therapy should begin as soon as your child receives an
autism diagnosis. Clinical research has shown that children who receive early
intervention (around two years old) make the most significant improvements. That
being said, it’s never too late to begin.

What are the prerequisites for enrolling in Brite ABA Therapy?

Most insurance companies will require your child to have a medical diagnosis of Autism
Spectrum Disorder before they’ll authorize coverage. We ask that you submit:
– a copy of your child’s diagnostic report
– a referral letter for ABA
– back and front copies of all active insurance cards

What’s the intake process?

Our Intake Specialist will contact your insurance provider to confirm your eligibility for ABA services and benefits. An authorization is often required to start the process.

Once we have the green light from your insurance and all documentation is on hand, we will schedule the initial assessment.
Once the on-site assessment is complete, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
will discuss recommended treatment dosage and create a plan based on your child’s
needs.

How can I start the intake process?

Visit the “Contact Us” page to schedule a free consultation.

How long does the intake process typically take?

The length of the intake process can vary. On average, it takes between two and three
weeks. However, our behavior analyst will work with you to ensure it’s as quick and
seamless as possible.

What ages do you serve?

We currently work with children between 2 and 13 years. Ages outside of this range are
assessed on a case by case basis.
